Jariah, 14, carries herself with quiet strength and has summoned courage to face both radiation and chemotherapy since being diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma last July.
Climbing into the car with her family one day, she thinks they are headed to the hospital for tests as part of her treatment. Falling asleep on the way, she doesn't notice a change of direction and wakes up to find her wish coming true before her eyes: a Cavalier King Charles spaniel puppy!
Jariah is presented with the puppy at the home of the breeder, who joins in the heartfelt wish reveal. Jariah names the sweet pup Bexley, after her favorite town in England. She holds Bexley in a gentle embrace and with tears in her eyes, whispers, "You are so cute, you are SO cute!"
"It was an instant connection. You could just see the sense of comfort that Jariah felt," says Amy, one of Jariah's Make-A-Wish volunteers.
That night, Jariah lies down to rest with Bexley tucked in close, the newest member of her loving support team.
