Like most teenagers, 18-year-old Dean from Cranston, RI, values freedom and independence. However, he has a life-threatening seizure disorder and his seizures have increased in frequency and intensity, requiring restrictions to be placed on him. For example, Dean cannot drive. While he knows the precautions are for his own safety, they still feel stifling.
Dean’s creative wish for rideshare gift cards put him back in control, granting him a newfound sense of freedom. He is now able to travel more freely to and from friends’ houses, the movies, and more – all on his own schedule and without relying on his family.
Dean’s Make-A-Wish volunteer team, friends, and family gathered at Dave & Buster’s Providence for Dean’s wish reveal. “Dean was floored by the gift cards…and was most definitely happy and excited about what his new autonomy means for him,” say his wish volunteers, Rich and Amy from Newport (pictured above with Dean). The Dave & Buster’s team provided everything needed for a fun celebration in Dean’s honor, and he and his friends had a blast playing arcade games. Best of all, Dean feels greater confidence and independence as he makes plans for plenty of adventures.
Thank you to the entire team at Dave & Buster's Providence for hosting a wish reveal party for Dean!
