Abby is a happy child whose smile lights up a room. She has intractable epilepsy and due to this and several additional disorders, requires complete assistance from others. She enjoys being pampered – “a princess in her chariot” as I like to say.
A loyal and loving sister, Abby is the youngest of her siblings and has spent countless hours at practices, games, and going from here to there for their activities. This made it even more special that her wish trip to Walt Disney World was all about her – and the magic of Disney was perfect for her.
Abby was able to go on almost every ride, thanks to her step-father who transferred her from her wheelchair for each one. She absolutely loved the roller coaster and of course, meeting characters and all the new experiences that were hers to enjoy each day. I just loved watching the happiness on her face. At one point, I remember looking at Abby’s smile and realizing that I haven't spent this much uninterrupted time with her in years. It was amazing.
Abby’s illnesses have impacted everyone in our family, and the quality time together that her wish gave us was priceless. It enabled all of us to break out of our everyday boundaries and share in an adventure with her as the star. And most of all, it put into perspective how important it is to just breathe and live in the moment.
