Step Two: Submit a background check.
All volunteers and Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island employees who have direct contact with children, access to confidential information, or access to Make-A-Wish funds must complete a criminal background check that shall be repeated, at a minimum, every three years. The fee for the background check is $27.95.
Please note: Make-A-Wish® shall not employ or utilize as a volunteer any individual who has been convicted of a crime that (a) victimizes children, (b) is sexual in nature, or (c) involves violence, fraud, or significant theft.
Step Three: Attend a volunteer training course and get started!

Complete your training by attending New Volunteer Training where you will meet members of our staff, complete your volunteer profile, and learn how to begin your volunteer work. New Volunteer Trainings are held in various locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and online.
