The fans gave a loud ovation to 11-year-old Stephen Register of Needham, Massachusetts, late in the opening quarter when he was shown on the Jumbotron. On Tuesday, as part of a Make-A-Wish memory, the team signed him to an honorary one-day contract and he practiced with Celtics players Amir Johnson and Kelly Olynyk, received a personalized team jersey, and participated in a press conference with players asking him questions.

One young Celtics fan had his dream come true. Teaming with Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the Boston Celtics signed 11-year-old Stephen Register of Needham to a one-day contract. Register, who has epilepsy, received his own jersey and had a press conference, fielding questions with the media, after signing with the team. After Celtics stars Amir Johnson and Kelly Olynyk showed Register to his locker, which was loaded with Celtics gear, he took the TD Garden floor to hit some shots.

The Celts signed Needham’s Stephen Register to a one-day deal Tuesday in conjunction with Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, which grants wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses. More than anything, the 11-year-old Register likes to shoot hoops, but he also suffers from a condition called intractable epilepsy.

11-year-old joins the Celtics for a day


An 11-year-old boy had his dream come true Tuesday when he got to play basketball with his favorite team, the Boston Celtics. Stephen Register has epilepsy and a visual impairment. With help from Make-a-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the Celtics put together a special day at TD Garden for him. Stephen was given his own locker in the Celtics’ locker room, plus a personalized jersey and new sneakers. He then signed an official contract, making him the Celtics’ newest rookie for a day.

Patriots Grant Hingham Teen’s Wish with Tickets And Honorary Captain-Ship

He’s 17 years old and a huge patriots fan, so it was a real treat for Spencer Riley to tour the hall at Patriot Place. He has lymphoma, and thanks to Make A Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Spencer is getting his wish to go to tonight’s Pats playoff game. It was better than just tickets for the game, though. Spencer, his pals and his dad got a personal meeting with Robert Kraft. Kraft told Spencer he will serve as honorary captain and will be on the field for the coin toss.

A 15-year-old tuba player will take the stage Friday as he plays alongside the Boston Pops. Ryan McAvoy of Aledo, Texas has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. When approached by the Make-A-Wish foundation, McAvoy said he wished to perform on stage with the orchestra.
