Anthony, 14, is a basketball aficionado who can recite stats on almost any player in the NBA. Despite his great love for the sport, the teen cannot play the game himself. Anthony has heart failure and has undergone multiple open heart surgeries as a result of his diagnosis. As a result, he gets his basketball fix by cheering on his favorite professional teams and his younger brother, whose team he helps to manage.
It was Anthony's turn to be center court when his wish to meet NBA player Stephen "Steph" Curry of the Golden State Warriors was granted! Steph is a rising NBA star, currently one of the best shooters in the league, and he welcomed Anthony and his family to California for a VIP experience like no other.
Anthony’s day began with a special fitting for a custom-made replica of one of Steph’s favorite suits. After watching the team’s morning shootaround, Anthony enjoyed a video game matchup with Steph in the players’ lounge. Later that day, side by side in their matching suits, Anthony and Steph spent time in the Warriors’ locker room, where they chatted as Steph ushered Anthony to a personalized locker full of custom clothing and memorabilia for him. Among Anthony’s favorite gifts were custom shoes made to match Steph’s game shoes and a Stephen Curry PlayStation4.
That night, Anthony served as honorary game captain as the Warriors faced the Houston Rockets in a close game. During halftime, Anthony was all smiles as he was presented with a customized Muscle Milk poster and bottle featuring Steph and Anthony and inspirational words celebrating Anthony.
Anthony’s wish was a slam dunk for the teen, bringing him face-to-face with his basketball idol for an unforgettable day. Through his wish, Anthony was able to leave his health concerns on the sidelines and was reminded of the strength and determination he has within himself.
