With an insatiable taste for fun -- and sometimes a little mischief -- four-year-old Mickey has a big personality. Born with a heart defect, he spent the first months of his life in Boston Children's Hospital receiving round-the-clock care as he awaited a heart transplant, which he received one day shy of turning six months old.
Mickey and his family recently returned from his wish trip to Cars Land in California, and his parents, Jimmy and Mary Kay, say, "The memories are as sweet and as cherished as the family time we had: that in itself was a beautiful gift."
Mickey loves the antics of Cars star Lightning McQueen and Lightning’s best pal, Tow Mater, so the distinct highlight of Mickey’s wish trip was his private meet-and-greet with the two friendly characters. And what made it even better was that Mickey’s own trusty sidekick—his brother, Jack—was right there with him for the exciting experience.
“We are so grateful for all the work and time it took to plan and organize this trip,” say Jimmy and Mary Kay. “The Make-A-Wish staff and volunteers were so helpful and compassionate throughout the wish-granting process. Mickey required a lot of equipment, documents, and coordination with his doctors and we really appreciate all the time it took to sort it out...As parents, we can't thank you enough for the joy you gave to Mickey and Jack. We are so very touched and forever hold your organization close to our family's heart.”
All of the hard work resulted in an amazing experience for both our boys and for us.
