Beach time, colorful sunsets, and warm breezes are quintessential summer experiences. For Lyla, they are even more special.
Born with a life-threatening genetic disorder, Lyla’s health is very fragile but her spirit is strong. She was given a 10% chance of living to her first birthday, and turned four this past May. Though she faces numerous physical challenges, she is a calm and happy child.
Through Lyla’s wish for a Cape Cod vacation, medical worries gave way to seaside family fun as she and her family enjoyed accommodations in a rental home overlooking a tidal bay in Wellfleet. From watching chipmunks and birds on the deck to a dune tour, boating, and shoreside play at the beach, the trip offered Lyla just the right balance of activities and quiet time. Surrounded by natural beauty and enjoying the simple joys of summer, she and her family experienced a level of ease they seldom feel.
“Make-A-Wish is a wonderful organization. It gives families going through times of stress and grief over their loved ones’ medical fragility a chance to relax and feel truly taken care of on all levels,” says Lyla’s mom, Irene.
“Lyla’s wish has given us all a deeper appreciation of the goodness in people and we will continue to bring her beautiful, joyful moments like those that we shared through her wish.”
