JJ’s happy place is the water. Even when he had a line in for chemotherapy, he would run to the water's edge, dip his toes in, and run back – all the while laughing. Picnics at the beach with his family have been welcome respites for JJ from time spent at the hospital being treated for neuroblastoma. He is four and doesn't fully understand all that is going on with his body, but he knows he feels happy and free when he's swimming and splashing.
JJ and his family knew a beach vacation would be ideal for his wish, and they traveled to TradeWinds Island Resort in Florida for a meaningful week of family time -- and their first out-of-state vacation.
“We had so much fun!” says JJ’s mom, Kristen. “JJ's favorite places, of course, were the pool and the beach! He also loved taking a walk down the beach to a playground, walking up all the stairs, and going down a huge blow-up water slide with his dad. At night we roasted marshmallows by the fire pit and took walks and played on the beach. JJ loved everything! Going on an adventure and just being somewhere different with us was so good for him. Thank you for allowing us to relax and enjoy not being in the hospital. Instead, we got to do what JJ loves most: be at the pool and the beach! We’re forever grateful!”
