For her entire life, Grace has had to confront many medical procedures and medications due to her heart condition. During her infancy, her family focused on learning to navigate the cardiology landscape, turning to a support group for help.
There, they met another family with a daughter, Megan, who had the same condition, and discovered that they lived right down the street from each other! The young girls and their families became fast friends. Grace and Megan went to preschool together and shared in activities like horseback riding as they grew up.
When Megan and her family moved to Nevada five years ago, she and Grace began coordinating their annual cardiology check-ups at Boston Children's Hospital, just to spend more time together. And, the real scheming began when they each learned from their local Make-A-Wish organizations that they were eligible for a wish. That's when they started Skype calls to hatch a plan to go on a Disney cruise together!
Grace and her family were invited to our 2017 Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island Gala, where they shared their story. The best part? Grace was surprised onstage by a special guest: Megan! The longtime friends embraced tightly, thrilled to share this moment together. It was the perfect way to get excited for their upcoming trip.
A few months later, together with their families, Grace and Megan met up in Florida and embarked on their five-day cruise through the Bahamas. They filled each day with swimming, exploring, enjoying Disney amusements, and plenty of talking and giggling. They even swam with dolphins, something Grace had been especially excited about. The highlight, of course, was basking in the strength and fun at the heart of their friendship!
