First thing in the morning, Brixton and his dad clasp his overalls and pull on his work boots. With his cowboy hat on his head, Brixton is ready to step into the California sunshine to greet the farm animals that eagerly await him.
At the age of three, Brixton might be the youngest farmhand you’ll meet, but he takes his responsibilities seriously. He knows his barnyard friends are relying on him during his stay at the San Diego Farm Animal Rescue for his wish.
Brixton’s age isn’t the only thing that sets up apart from the rest of the farm staff. Brixton has a brain tumor, and this strong-willed boy has undergone intensive treatment to help shrink the tumor.
Each day on his wish trip, this young animal lover diligently tends to the animals, including horses, chickens, and his favorite, the pigs. In his small fists, he clasps food and shrieks with joy every time an animal accepts some from him. Whether crouching down next to the chickens and pigs or gazing up at the horses while the farm staff care for them, Brixton learns about all of the hard work that goes into operating a working farm animal rescue facility, and loves all of the hands-on time he has to pet the animals.
At nearby Nurtured by Nature, a wildlife facility that offers behind-the-scenes encounters, Brixton is treated to even more time with animals. Each exotic creature he meets there puts a wide smile on his face, a priceless gift for his parents.
“Brixton’s wish enabled us to go on a trip together with no worries. It was really special because it was also our first family vacation. We were able to do all these activities that my son loved,” says Brixton’s mom, Alana. Thanks to his time in San Diego, Brixton felt the pure joy that comes from being immersed in something you love and creating cherished memories with family.
