Ben reaches down into the warm water and pulls up a beautiful conch shell. Intrigued, he calls his sisters over to examine it with him. It’s one of many magical moments from the 10-year-old's wish that he now cherishes.
In the midst of his final months of leukemia treatment, Ben will hold tight to the laughter and tropical fun that surrounded him on his wish — a wish that enabled him to bring his family along with him on a voyage to brighter horizons.
Ben knew a Disney cruise was the perfect wish for him. He and his family spent four days on the ocean and exploring Nassau in the Bahamas as well as Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
“The cruise ship was ginormous and it had so many things to do!” says Ben. He and his sisters met Mickey Mouse and enjoyed games, crafts, and the theater. One of his favorite activities was the Aqua Duck, a one-of-a-kind water coaster encircling the ship. And the whole family loved dressing up in costume for Pirate Night as they enjoyed a pirate-themed dinner, deck party, and even fireworks!
“It would be great if I could just live on the cruise ship!” Ben exclaims as he shares his memories.
His siblings and parents agree. “Ben’s wish trip was magical. We all felt empowered to act like kids. His wish made everything seem possible and that level of hopefulness will get us through these last months of treatment,” says his mom, Kim.
