Alex sets up his shot and gazes down the fairway, his concentration strong as he adjusts his grip on the club. As he sends the ball soaring, this aspiring golfer grins and pauses, letting the moment sink in: his wish to play at PGA National has come true!
Alex’s journey to this proud and joyful moment has not been easy. Diagnosed with aortic stenosis, he is restricted from participating in most sports. Golf was a safe option for him and it quickly became his passion at a very young age. Several major heart surgeries – including one to replace his aortic valve with a mechanical one – haven’t slowed Alex’s swing: out on the course, his health challenges are no match for his golfing prowess. Playing competitively since he was 10, the now 17-year-old is a standout member of his high school varsity golf team.
At PGA National in Florida, Alex and his father enjoy a round of golf on two courses, The Squire and The Champion. The teen is truly following in the footsteps of golf’s legends and playing the same greens as his heroes fills Alex with renewed inspiration to chase his dreams of becoming a professional golfer.
“My wish reminded me that there’s so much to be thankful for, and so much to look forward to in the future,” shares Alex. Adds his mother, Angela, “Alex’s wish provided him with positivity, encouragement, and hope to continue playing the game he loves.”
