A LOOK BACK: The 30th Anniversary Make-A-Wish Gala: A Grand Slam for Wishes
On April 8, 2017, our Make-A-Wish community truly hit it out of the park through the 30th Anniversary Make-A-Wish Gala: Where Every Wish is a Home Run, held at the InterContinental Boston. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the event – held on April 8 at the InterContinental Boston – raised over $1 million for wishes! On behalf of the 100+ wish children in Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose heartfelt wishes will be granted with these funds, thank you to all of our gala sponsors, attendees, in-kind supporters, committee members, volunteers, and program participants for coming together in support of the Make-A-Wish mission. We extend special thanks to our Presenting Sponsors, Steven and Deborah Barnes and the Bain Capital Community Partnership.
Our evening program included recognition of the Boston Red Sox as our 30th Anniversary Honoree, with Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner accepting the award and special guests Sam Kennedy, Team President, and pitching legend and Honorary Chairman of the Red Sox Foundation, Tim Wakefield.
CEO Charlotte Beattie shared key updates about our organization and its growth, as well as gratitude for many long-standing supporters of the gala. Board chair Bob Paglia recognized key event sponsors and leaders of our organization, as well as our 30th Anniversary Honoree, the Boston Red Sox. Emcee and Make-A-Wish board member Liz Brunner introduced the audience to past Red Sox wish recipients Aaron, Jordan, Joe, Obier, Philip, and Tyler; siblings and wish recipients Rachael, Abby, and Josh; Morgan and Gracie, who gave an inspiring vocal performance dedicated to all wish kids; and Grace, who was surprised on-stage with a visit from her friend and fellow wish child Megan, from Nevada. Guest speakers included Joe Baker, father of three wish recipients, and Tiffany Rowe, a 28-year Make-A-Wish volunteer and wish recipient, who reflected on the lasting impact of her 1988 wish.
Through stories, music, surprises, and more, the 30th Anniversary Make-A-Wish Gala was a memorable evening that celebrated our 30-year history and helped to set the course for our future!
