A Look Back at Last Year

The 2017 Make-A-Wish Golf Tournament:
Celebrating 25 years of teeing up for wishes

On June 10, 2017, over 100 golfers joined us for a beautiful day at Salem Country Club to support Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island in its 30th anniversary year and to celebrate the tournament’s silver anniversary.

More than 500 wishes have been granted through funds raised over the course of the tournament’s history. The 2017 event highlighted the power of each and every one of those wishes, from remarks by wish recipient Alex about how much it meant to him to play at PGA National in Florida to wish mom Raven’s message that her son Stephen’s wish to be a Boston Celtics player was “the best day of his life!”

During the evening’s program, we were pleased to present longtime auctioneer John Terrio with special recognition for his key role in the success of the tournament over the years.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters — including Presenting Sponsor John Hayes of Great Hill Partners and all of our tournament sponsors, as well as our anonymous donor who matched all Fund-A-Wish contributions; and our event committee, participants, in-kind donors, and volunteers — $270,000 was raised, which will grant the wishes of 34 seriously ill children!

Tee up to bring joy to wish kids like Brady!

Brady wished to golf at Pebble Beach

Brady, 12, was born with a heart defect and his extensive medical treatment has included seven heart surgeries. Golf is the perfect balance of action and rest for this young sports fan, whose illness prevents him from participating in many other sports. The talented golfer was elated to play with his father at Pebble Beach, taking the challenging course in stride as he thought about the legendary players whose footsteps he was following. And, with every swing he took, Brady’s confidence soared!
