Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island Celebrates
30 Years of Wish Granting

January 16, 2017 (Boston, Mass.) – In 2017, Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the goal of granting over 400 wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses.  One of the first wishes to be granted by the organization in its milestone year will be for Stephen Register, 11, a devoted Celtics fan from Needham, MA who will get his wish to be a Boston Celtics player for a day on Tuesday, January 17 at T.D. Garden.  Though diagnosed with intractable epilepsy, Stephen remains active and playing basketball is his favorite pastime.  As part of his wish, Stephen will sign an honorary one-day contract with the team, practice with players, receive a personalized team jersey, and participate in a press conference.  Over the past 30 years, the Boston Celtics have granted over 40 wishes for Make-A-Wish children across the Commonwealth and around the country.

“We are delighted to grant Stephen’s wish as one of our first wishes in 2017, our 30th year of wish granting!” says Charlotte Beattie, Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  “We are grateful to our supporters throughout the community who have helped us to provide joy to nearly 8,000 children like Stephen since 1987.  And we feel privileged to partner closely with the Boston Celtics in bringing another incredible wish to fruition. Stephen is sure to remember his special wish day for years to come.”
