Beverly Boy's Wish Granted by Anaheim Ducks

Shaelin Earle’s wish was the Mighty Ducks' command, Thursday night at the TD Garden. Ryan Getzlaf buried the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Boston Bruins, 3-2, on March 26. The victory was extra special for Shaelin Earle. The Beverly resident was an honorary Duck for the day, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Ducks Welcome Make-A-Wish Visitor As One of Their Own

A boy's devotion to the Ducks is rewarded when he gets to experience a day with the team.
Jeanne Earle can’t explain her son Shaelin’s fascination with the Ducks and why a kid from Beverly, Mass., would root for a hockey team based in Anaheim.

“He’s a major sports fan and he really doesn’t like any New England teams, despite the fact that we live here,” she said. “He’s not a Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins fan.”

Ducks Make a Dream Come True in Boston

Shaelin Earle was born with cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs and digestive system. Despite growing up in one of the most passionate sports towns of Boston, Shaelin developed a passion and love for watching the Ducks.

When he was granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish foundation, he knew immediately he wanted to go to Anaheim and see the Ducks play in person.

In 2014, students raised over $31,000 for Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island through “Masco in Motion”, the annual 6-mile freshman/peer leader walk, which took place in October, in which students raise funds for a selected charity.

Peer Leaders were motivated to select this charity because of a Proctor School fourth-grader, Maddie Santosuosso of Topsfield, who has battled cancer and gotten her own wish granted to meet the Bruins.
