Community working to make Westfield boy’s wish come true

A community has gathered to make a Westfield boy’s wish come true. Five-year-old Darren McQuade will soon have his dream play shed right in his own backyard. Local firefighters and vendors have partnered with Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island to build and paint the shed.

A 4-year-old in Westfield that has been diagnosed with a life-threatening condition has asked for one wish that will soon be granted. Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island will make Darren McQuade's dreams come true to build a dinosaur-themed playhouse in his backyard.

This morning Charlotte Beattie, Chief Executive Officer, Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island along with Aaron Joseph, the wish recipient of 2009 joined us on The Rhode Show. Aaron was diagnosed with a germ cell tumor and his wish was to throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game. Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

New golf tournament to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation

Local golfers are invited to tee up for a good cause next month at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington. To celebrate 30 years of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island is hosting its inaugural golf tournament on May 15. Proceeds from the fundraising event will go towards the organization’s mission of bringing joy to the lives of seriously ill children.

At Make-a-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the Boston Red Sox are truly big hitters, having helped grant the wishes of some 200 children with life-threatening medical conditions. The team was honored at the charity’s 30th Anniversary Gala on April 8 at the InterContinental Boston, where 500 guests raised more than $1 million. The charity will soon reach another milestone, as it’s on track to grant its 8,000th wish by the end of the summer.

Liz Brunner emceed the program, which featured wish recipients from the past three decades and a tribute to longtime wish granting partner, the Boston Red Sox. The event drew more than 500 guests, raising in excess of $1 million to help grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

At its 30th Anniversary Gala, it kicked off the celebration in style alongside some of the area’s biggest players — in sports and in business. “It was incredible,” said Charlotte Beattie, CEO of Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. “Everyone came together and raised over $1 million, which will allow us to give wishes to children over the next few months.”

Guests celebrated three decades of wish granting by Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island on Saturday at the InterContinental Boston. The evening, emceed by Liz Brunner, included a tribute to the Red Sox, a longtime partner that has granted approximately 200 wishes for kids across the country. Also in attendance was longtime Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield and Wally the Green Monster was there to pose for photos with wish recipients from the last 30 years.

Make-A-Wish organization hosts “Swish Night” in Longmeadow

It was a night of granting wishes and watching the NCAA championship basketball tournament in Longmeadow, Saturday night. Hundreds of people packed the Longmeadow Country Club for the 6th annual “Swish Night,” hosted by the Make-A-Wish organization. Not only were the guests watching what was happening on the court, they were also helping make wishes come true for children who are seriously ill.
