Tom Brady calls making wishes come true 'a privilege'

Nine children got the experience of a lifetime Wednesday when they were given the opportunity to meet New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The meeting was the result of the efforts of the Make a Wish Foundation, a non-profit that gives wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Southwick child receives pool through Make-A-Wish

A wish was granted Wednesday for a four-year-old Southwick girl, but Avery McAvoy is really celebrating two granted wishes. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was able to grant Avery’s wish of having her very own backyard pool. But her first wish has already been granted. She’s been cancer-free for two years.

A wish come true: a six-year-old’s own little log cabin from Make-a-Wish

Six-year-year-old Evan Vaudry got a wish Sunday: a custom-made log cabin, complete with rocking chair, mailbox and plenty of room for sleepovers with friends. More than 30 friends, family and supporters were on hand Sunday at 19 Billington Circle as Evan sped his wheelchair down hill to the ADA-accessible cabin, tucked amid trees at the edge of the lawn.

Cumberland boy’s wish granted thanks to Make-A-Wish MA/RI

A Cumberland boy became the proud owner of a new ADA-accessible log cabin Sunday, thanks in part to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A “wish reveal” party took place Sunday morning for 6-year-old Evan Vaudry, who has been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. The cabin was custom-designed for Vaudry, with personal touches from a sign on the front door reading “Evan’s Cabin,” to a front porch with two rocking chairs.

Make-A-Wish Foundation raises $90K for sick children at golf event

The Make-A-Wish Foundation hosted its annual golf classic at the Springfield Country Club, Monday. Thirty-seven teams tee’d off to raise $90,000 for 11 kids in western Massachusetts with life-threatening illnesses. The money goes towards special wishes the kids have. From backyard pools to Disney trips, it’s the mission of Make-A-Wish to instill hope in kids that they will keep fighting through their illnesses.

Westfield boy gets dinosaur-themed play shed thanks to Make-A-Wish

It was a day that Darren McQuade, 5, of Westfield, had wished for. With the help of the Make-A-Wish of Massachusetts and Rhode Island Foundation, his family, friends, and volunteers, it all came together. McQuade loves dinosaurs and dreamed of having a place where he could enjoy and call his own. A 10-by-16-foot play shed was recently placed in his backyard and decorated in colorful dinosaur wall murals.

Custom saddle fulfills Norwell teen’s wish

Norwell resident Elizabeth Lambert loves Cookies and Cream, the two horses that live on her family’s property. But living with Dravet Sydrome, a rare and lifelong form of epilepsy, has limited the 16-year-old’s ability to ride and experience the animals. Thanks to Make-a-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, she’ll now be able to ride with more independence.

Westfield firefighters build child playhouse of his dreams

Wishes sometimes do come true for deserving children. Five year old Darren McQuade suffers from muscular dystrophy, and in a few years may be confined to a wheelchair. He has always wanted a dinosaur themed playhouse. An artist and a team of Westfield firefighters completed the work that the Make-a-Wish foundation had begun.
